Saturday 25 February 2012: breathing flower

The creation of Seoul artist Choi Jeong Hwa,this giant red lotus flower floats in a Reflection Pond. Set in the grounds of the University of Western Australia it was commissioned for this year's Perth Art Festival and a lovely centrepiece for the weekend's Writers Festival.

The petals rise and fall with breathlike rhythm and as a breeze ripples the surface and ducks doze in the red reflections it really is quite mesmerising.
Carved into a low wall at one end of the pool are the words 'Verily by beauty it is that we come at wisdom.'
How true.
