All is Revealed

Returning to the subject of my mystery blip. It was Pulsatilla halleri, illustrating very clearly one of the common attributes of alpine plants, hairiness. Protection from dessication by wind and from extreme cold, these hairs trap the sun's warmth, sometimes providing shelter for insects too.

Very early for this Pasque Flower to be raising it's head to the sun, most of its relatives will not flower until the Easter season as their common name suggests.

Hope to show this precocious flower when it opens .... which may not be very many days if the weather stays fair.
