Sunday 26 February 2012: Red letters

Snowball and I went to offer some percussive support to a demo by some Spanish people against the brutal treatment dished out by police to protesting students, many as young as 14, in Valencia last week.

They were protesting about education cuts that have seen some of them having to study without heating or electricity. Plenty were hospitalised, but the police are accused of stealing medical records to obstruct proceedings against them.

The chief of police refused to provide the badge numbers of the officers involved and referred to the young people as 'the enemy.' This woman's sign, one of many spiked on the fences around the Spanish embassy in Belgravia, reads 'We are the people, not the enemy.'
