Tuesday 28 February 2012: Tom Johnston
This portrait of the wartime Secretary of State for Scotland, Tom Johnston hangs in Bute House, and is by Sir Herbert James Gunn.
He is something of a hero to many in Scottish politics - probably the greatest Secretary of State. For me his work as a writer and then as the Chair of the Scottish Forestry Commission, as well as his role in bringing "power from the glens", are also of great significance.
