Plus ça change...

He's a lumberjack...

Lots of singing of that song today as, after a morning scraping interminable layers of paint off the wall in the WC, we awarded ourselves an afternoon in the sunshine.

First job was putting up a couple of bird boxes, then clearing another patch of brambles and finally starting the job of cutting down the hundreds of unwanted saplings we have in the garden. That's all quite hot work in the sun - even resulting in some top-half nudity for Mr B (though not, obviously, when we were doing brambles). And as you can see, when Conor was home from school he joined in the hard work. Still lots to do, but at least we'll be well supplied with sticks and logs for the cook-outs we're planning this spring.

This evening we even managed a blissful half hour just sitting on the terrace trying to identify all the birds we could see. That may sound quite dull, but being able to live outside more was one of the main reasons we moved here. So it's nice to see that working out!

Tomorrow: more of the same. And as dinner is the steak and ale pie that does two dinners... we'll probably be eating the same too.

Only negative note of the day was the Jeep not starting this morning. Of course I feel guilty as I was the last to drive it... We are charging our car starting kit and hopefully tomorrow all will be well...
