Bocce at the Tuileries

This is from the east end of the top floor of the Jeu de Paume (see below), showing the Jardin des Tuileries, with the Tour Montparnasse in the right background--not elegant, but it's there. On the left, a lady in a striped sweater is about to toss a ball in what his clearly a game of boules or bocce. View it large!

We had a double outing today, first to Paris's Cluny Museum of the middle ages, for an exhibition on Gaston Febus (a French nobleman who wrote a major book on hunting in the late 14th century--the center of the show). Our medievalist friend Liz from London was along--very helpful with information. Lunch again at L'As du Fallafel.

Then to two photography shows at the Jeu de Paume. Most enjoyable was Berenice Abbott, an American photographer who began her career in Paris in the 1920's and then moved back to New York--her NYC images are among the very best of this city, in my view. A marvelous exhibition. Then there was Ai Weiwei, a contemporary Chinese artist who does photography and much else--by then I was too tired to do him justice--I'll return.

Spurred by this, I've just archived an amusing shot at the Jeu de Paume from just three years ago, entitled "The Black Glove".
