Thursday 1 March 2012: unremarkable
Technically, this was an unattended baggage and should have been reported, but it looked harmless and I'd already done my citizenly duty (and taken up ten minutes of valuable lunchtime) by reporting a combined water main leak/pothole on Gilmore Place, which has apparently been there for some time but looked freshly-expanded and more than capable of dismounting a bicycle.
