Hong Kong Island

An absolutely wonderful day on Hong Kong Island. Slept in late due to the jet lag and had a tremendous mid-morning breakfast. Oh how wonderful to have bacon and eggs and some sausages, as well as some eastern things, before mid-morning!!
Our wander towards Hong Kong Island peak was just lovely, and out ascent of the hill a challenge, but nothing more than that! The summit was quite stunning and the views across the Bay simply breathtaking!

We really came to appreciate the Island in the afternoon as we strolled through Hong Kong Park and marvelled at the wild birds and the brides being photographed beside the waterfall. What really struck us about Hong Kong Island was the sharp contrast between the old and new. Next to the Bank of China and the Cita Bank were almost shanty towns and conditions close to misery. On one hand there were glossy towers and on the other a pretty basic existence!

Today's blip is taken from the Tram to Causeway Bay. I kinda liked all the lines around the trams and their surroundings!

Hong Kong is full of of sharp contrasts:-

- We reckoned the average age of the populuation was about 30 Years
- The work ethic of the Chinese has to be seen to be believed
- HG fills you with a sensory overload of the sounds, smells of the island
- Communism is nowhere to be seen, but the island provides the best example of modern day capitalism in action!
- Some of the richest and poorest on our planet live within a very short distance in this area!
- This is a place you just have to visit!!

Tomorrow we hope to see some more of the island and beyond!
