Monday 2 April 2012: Immature Golden-crowned Sparrow
I've seen these out in the forest, but this is my first spotting of a Golden-crowned Sparrow at the house, on the ground, foraging for insects, seeds, and the like. They are a beautiful bird, and the emerging feathers on this immature bird are interesting to see. When it matures, it will be a bright yellow crown with thick black eyebrows!!
They are pretty hard to spot as they seek cover whenever possible. This little fellow kept in the azalea bushes, until he could no longer stand it....had to get to the seed scattered on the ground.
