Calf: Asleep, with Frost Shadow

The local pastures are full of little black spring calves. Apparently quite easily amused, I have found them to be a source of endless entertainment. Yesterday, I showed you a pair of calves, cavorting.

Calves, like kittens, seem to have two modes: full on, and full stop. Today's photo shows the other end of the spectrum: morning calf, fast asleep!

The night before was quite cold and we had frost. The morning sun had melted the frost away and turned it to dew in the sunny pasture . . . except for inside this little calf's shadow, where, if you look closely, you can still see a bit of frost.
