A moment in time

Findlater Castle

We woke this morning to dull skies and it turned out to be a pretty mixed day for weather, but it didn't stop us doing a lot.

After a great breakfast (that is the favourite thing about hotels for me, the cooked breakfast, wonderful)...... we headed into town to find Elgin Castle, which was easy to find as it sits on top of a wee hill, unfortunately there is very little of it left. We walked around the town and visited the ruins of Elgin Cathedral, which must have been magnificient at one time.

In the afternoon we drove along the Moray coast to Banff. On the way we saw a sign for Findlater Castle, near Cullen, and drove along a minor road towards the sea, then walked down to a viewpoint. It is amazing that they built a castle in such a place, it sits on a promontory overlooking the sea. It is the remains of a 14th century keep and castle, a fortress of the Ogilvies of Findlater.

Really enjoyed our day.
