Friday 6 April 2012: Sydney Cove or Port Jackson

I could not stop myself posting this since I like the view so much.

Making the connection to "Trace of Past Empires" is harder though!

This is where the first fleet landed after giving up at Botany Bay where they had been wrongly directed by Captain Cook's voyage.

Here they found the Tank Stream source of fresh water (at least when they landed), and the Eora people who were living by fishing and hunting.

This was a deep water anchorage into which ships could safely sail, miles up into Sydney Harbour from the Heads.

Here the port of Sydney developed and Government Houses were erected. Eventually on this point the tram depot of the Imperial City was located, and after it was demolished and the trams removed, a scheme for an Opera House was launched.
