Reflections on the Past

There was no NSEA work party today -- the opening day of the Bellingham Farmers' Market, eagerly awaited by Cynthia -- so she recruited me as a dogsbody market volunteer and assistant photographer.

Today also felt like the first day of Spring, and the sunshine attracted a large crowd to witness the opening day ceremonies, which included a parade of vintage tractors (eat your heart out, Lizzie), and the traditional cabbage toss. The brilliant sunshine, contrasted with the shade of the vendors' booths, made photography quite challenging, and we spent a lot of time tweaking our photos this afternoon and evening.

My blip photo subject is Jenny, owner of Derby Fine Millinery & Clothing, modeling one of her hats. She was very easy to photograph, and I was pleased with the results.

After the market, C and I had a light lunch at the Temple Bar. She'll probably tell you all about it in her blip. I'll just mention that it included oysters on the half shell with a glass of Picpoul. That brought back memories of the market at Lamalou-les-Bains.

On the way home we made a detour to the latest new brewpub, Khulshan Brewing Company. We tasted their IPA and the Good Ole Boy Pale Ale, and brought home a growler* of the Pale. I just saw (8:44 PM) on their Facebook page that they ran out of Pale -- we got there just in time!

I've put a few photos on Flickr -- yes, Lizzie, there are tractor photos.

* A growler is a glass jug used to take home beer -- usually four US pints (1.9 liters).
