usual

There is a relatively new gin joint in town, The Usual. Their schtick is Prohibition-era "craft" cocktails. They still have some kinks to work out, in my opinion, regarding their ambiance (Ikea and church-pew-rigid wood cubes (pictured)) and service. However, the department that really matters--their drinks--they have down pat (although an Old Fashioned is supposed to have a sugar lump in it--mine tasted, and looked, totally unsweetened, now that I think about it). In the end, though, the company of good friends erases all of these minor shortcomings. I will probably go back.

Went on a bike ride and then read this morning for one of my classes: The Lost Steps by Alejo Carpentier. I love it.
