Monday 9 April 2012: Easter lily

Originally the easter lily was white, symbolizing purity, virtue, innocence, life and hope.

Along our street, in the gardens and dotted amongst the suburban landscape, stems of Belladonna Pink (Easter) Lillies pop up from the most unprepossessing lumpy bulbs that survive the summer heat and lack of water.
In one clump the lillies can range from these pink veined white flowers to a rich, velvety magenta.

When they begin to appear, we know autumn is on the way.
