A Load of Balusters

Blauster - (architecture) A short column used in a group to support a rail, as commonly found on the side of a stairway.
This is really a balustrade - (architecture) A row of balusters topped by a rail, serving as an open parapet, as along the edge of a balcony, terrace, bridge, staircase, or the eaves of a building.
This is taken at Basildon Park, I needed to get out of work for a while so at lunch I went for a short visit. Lovely parkland and a magnificent building designed in the Palladian style. It has never been finished and it has been used by the military twice. In 1910 it was standing empty and in 1914, it was requisitioned by the British Government as an army convalescent hospital. In 1929 someone tried to dismantle it to rebuild it in the USA, obviously they failed. During World War II, the house was again requisitioned and served as a barracks, a training ground for tanks, and finally a prisoner of war camp. Leaving it in a bit of a mess.
Have a great weekend all.
