Monday 16 April 2012: hands
tonight the ortho club hosted Hanger prosthetics and orthotics.
we were fortunate to meet Mark & Toby. Mark first got into prosthetic work in high school after his sister had a motorcycle accident. He is a licensed prosthetist and does outreach work in Hatti with Hanger. Mark loves to talk and he really wowed us tonight with some amazing after stories; we were able to get a hands demo to see the technological advancements available. it was quite an experience. Toby is a single limb amputee that is not only a patient, but is Hanger's marketing rep. Toby is also a peer visitor: he counsels new patients on how life is after an accident and how life can be what you make it. Toby is a fantastic golfer and had quite an amazing story.
it was a small showing on our club's behalf tonight, but that make it more special for those who attended as we got hands on and had a more personal interaction with Mark and Toby. We hope to bring them back next semester. Thanks gentlemen.
Ryan is pictured here, having a hands on experience.
cheers,
