Plain and simple

It may have escaped your notice but we are pretty much a homebaked foccacia type of household... malted granary flours and sourdough breads are regularly on the bread board.

However... we are also very fond of a Scots Plain Loaf.

Especially toasted to a golden brown and slathered in good salty butter.

And, like most households where this is to be found, there is a race to be the one to nab the thick end slice which makes the best toast of all. Then follows the ritual wait until the rest of the loaf is eaten and we can fight over the other end slice.

Oddly, the boys call this Play-doh bread. Not because, as I first thought, that it tastes like Play-doh but because the logo on the pack looks like the Play-doh logo.
