Life Is Pootiful

Congress

After visiting the White House yesterday we moved on to Congress today. Or, rather, I got up in time for our 10am tour while Gillian and Daisy stayed behind for breakfast and then met me afterwards for the rest of the day's sightseeing (after this photo-opportunity).

Washington (or 'the District' as locals apparently call it) is great: like an open-air museum exhibiting buildings and views you've seen a thousand times on TV and film. In addition to the White House, we packed a lot of sights in yesterday (with the help of the open-top bus): the Washington Monument; the Ford Theatre (where my namesake put a bullet in Abe Lincoln); Arlington Cemetery; the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials; and, my personal favourite, the Lincoln Memorial.

Today, after Congress, we went to the Botanic Gardens (guess who's idea that was), the Natural History Museum (great dinosaurs) and the Holocaust Museum (very moving). We're planning to squeeze in the zoo and Georgetown tomorrow; our last full day in Washington and the last full day of our holiday. It's been a great break and all this moving from place to place has given us a taste for travelling again. Who knows?!
