Saturday 28 April 2012: Loons

Taking a break from the B&W for today but will return! This is the wooden bowl that was on my fireplace mantel in B&W 2 days ago. I wanted to show it in color --it is exquisitely carved by Floyd Joseph, a member of the Squamish tribe of the Coast Salish people which includes the Seattle area and British Columbia, Canada. Floyd is from Capilano, BC. This treasure is a small version of a "feast bowl" that would be used for serving food at a potlatch and uses the distinctive forms of the art of this area. I do love this rich native art which changes as it travels up the coast to Alaska and have enjoyed studying it at the UW....

And I just had to include the real inspiration!
