MeriRand & the NW Passage

Pygmy Owl

Sunrise on the 3rd day. We awoke before sunrise and walked out to the river tower to catch a glimpse of the morning animals. We were greeted by the snores of the tiger heron and jacarés crashing back into the water. Our guide used his phone recordings to call in a pygmy owl to the tower and between waves of mosquitoes I was able to capture this photo. On our walk back from watching the sunset, we had to keep an eye out forward, backward, and side to side for any large cats waiting for prey. We, unfortunately, didn't see any, but on the walk back from the sunrise, we saw tapir and ocelot tracks on our nighttime trail. A good day of animal viewing! And we switched pousadas in the evening.
