Palapa Repair

Today was the first day of repair work on the complex's main palapa. The three workers began hauling in new fronds (by hand, about two dozen trips) starting soon after the sun rose. They then sent the young guy up the palapa where he proceeded to rip off approximately 1/6 of the old fronds. The photo here shows about 2/3s of that process completed. The guy in the foreground is the "palapa master". He has been doing palapa work for generations and while he is now too old for the hard, physical high work, he did his share of carrying new fronds in and old fronds out. By the time we returned from the airport at 17:00, all the old were gone and they had two rows of new in place.
