Cold Golden Fire: Morning Sun Through Trees

We had mild weather for a few days earlier this week. And after a month of almost no sun at all, the sun came back: such a welcome sight! Since then, the temperatures have dropped, leaving us with cold, clear, mostly sunny days.

The temperature when we got up was 19 degrees F (-7 degrees C), and as an impressionist artist of window condensation, I had plenty of it to work with on this morning. The sun rose through the trees outside, sending dark tree shadows everywhere and illuminating every water droplet on the window till it sparkled and shone with cold golden fire.

For some reason, the experience reminded me of that wonderful song, The Ballad of Lucy Jordan, particularly the first verse:

The morning sun touched lightly on
The eyes of Lucy Jordan
In a white suburban bedroom
In a white suburban town

I first fell in love with this song when I heard it on the Thelma and Louise movie soundtrack. (Every song on it is a winner, by the way.) Here is Marianne Faithfull, with The Ballad of Lucy Jordan.
