..and slurping through this beauty's mate (all 500gm!) at lunchtime, I listened to a very fragile fruity article on Rural RN.

Apparently, specks, dots, freckles and skin blemishes are NOT the go for fruit that ends up on the 'major player' supermarket shelves.
A mango grower in Queensland spoke about dumping crates and crates and crates...and yes CRATES of slightly blemished fruit because it doesn't pass muster, regardless of the fact the flesh is not affected.
In past times this fruit would have been...
...juiced (contracts diminishing)
...pulped (imports are now cheaper)
..canned (ditto above).

So now they are left to rot.
Disgraceful.

This dude bought at our local newsagent (of all places) who has a license to sell fresh produce.
He  treks off to the veggie wholesaler and sources from local growers.
At $1.50 a mango it is scary to think what the grower actually gets considering how many profiting hands it must pass through.
