Deer at Dyrham

So, first day of the rest of my life and the Sun is shining. We took the camper van for a breath of fresh air, to Dyrham Park near Bath.

The house is under a massive scaffold while they try and replace the roof tiles and lead-work, and fix all the problems with the stone-work that they found once the scaffold was erected. Still, the walk in the park was gorgeous in the morning sunshine, and as we topped a rise we came across the Fallow Deer herd for which the site was originally named, more than 1500 years ago.

They were quite willing to let us walk quite close (and so we did). Although the herd runs wild it is used to the site rangers and other staff, and of course the inquisitive visitors to Dyrham. The herd is culled annually to keep it around 200 strong, and it truly is a sight to see.

There're a few more pictures on my Flickr site.
