One day I fell asleep...

...and when I woke up, it was all greenery!

Another ramble through the grounds of Newark Park, in Gloucestershire.

Newark Park is a National Trust C16th hunting lodge set in 725 acres of woodland and pasture.  This time we went down the estate through Lower Lodge Wood to the road, and followed it up to Ozleworth and back to the lodge.  The wild garlic is beginning to scent the air, and the first bluebells are pushing out from the hedgerows.  There are people with money living down here...

The lodge was renovated by an American who lived in it until his death, and as such it has trappings of ancient and modern throughout the house and estate. This mock-Roman bust is in the wall adjacent the entrance to the lodge, over-grown with ivy and moss as if the fellow has drifted off to sleep as the game of croquet continued behind him, awaking decades later amidst the greenery.
