Eastern Beach

This beach is just a little bit further along the street where we are temporarily staying; while I do the locum in New Plymouth. Another four weeks, yet.

This morning I went for a run looking for a place away from the coast where I could get a good view of the sunrise. There was such a lot of low cloud, and no unobstructed views, I ended up back at a wee park above the southern end of Eastern beach which is only a couple of minutes walk from where we are staying. Quite pleased with this one.

After breakfast, we packed a few things into the car and drove back to Auckland. Its just over 360 km, much of it through winding roads and up and down steep hills. Very interesting geology through the two major gorges.

The last 100 km or so was on (for the most part) a dual carriageway and then motorway. We were happy to be headed back to Auckland, as the traffic headed south was at times almost stopped, and for large distances was bumper to bumper. Those of us going north had a relatively free run.

Spent the latter part of the afternoon with the boys and their mother (and Banjo the puppy; can't ignore forget him). Mr H kindly offered us each a chocolate Easter egg, which I accepted in order to decrease the amount of chocolate that he ate. It was a real chore to eat it, but I manfully did so.

Our other daughter will join us for a makeshift meal this evening; we came back to an empty apartment, and the supermarkets are closed today. Wasn't very bright of us.

It's good to be in our own environment again, even if for me it will be a very brief stay. I have to be back to be the on call doctor for Monday.
