With the rain, as they say in the vernacular,' fair pishing doon', I can't say it was the most promising of days to be in the throes of holiday packing, but with his Lordship's seemingly under control, we cheered ourselves up by having a valedictory cake biscuit in the land of Flowers amidst a plethora of bunting and Union Jacks.

You know that it's serious rain and flooding when there's a duck waddling over the grass in front of the house with the nearest serious water at least half a mile away, and when the primulas look as though they could do with life belts as they struggle once more to swim in their tubs.

It appears from the Met office weather forecast that it is not raining in Orkney. How good is that!
