Saturday: Statues in Maribor

Our little jaunt to Maribor, Slovenia, continued today.  Our friend, Vicki, is with us to provide entertainment, something she does on a regular basis.  She is also very adept at map reading and keeping us on the straight and narrow.

We followed a walking tour of Maribor, thanks to our tourist map.  It was pretty rainy and grey but it didn't matter too much.  We started off at the Franciscan Church and then had a wonderful time in the town museum, which was brilliantly done.  The highlight was when the guide took us into the museum storage quarters - a massive room that housed 'spare' antique furniture from floor to ceiling.

After a thorough walk round Maribor (which is pretty small, but very lovely), we drove back, via Ptuj (pronounced as if your sneezing - Ptoy), where we had some lunch.  And then, on impulse, we also stopped off in Krapina, at the Neanderthal Museum.  We didn't actually go to the museum, we just wanted to see the large, newly installed, sculpture of Neanderthal man, who stands at the entrance of the museum, as it was sculpted by our friend, Denis.

And now home again for more adventures this week!

And thanks so much for all your message following my 1,569th blip yesterday!
