Monday: (Ef)Facing Shakespeare

The end of this month marks 400 years since the death of Shakespeare so there are a lot of events going on, here and around the world, to mark that.

This was a lecture I went to this evening by Vladimir Brljak, a professor of 16th and 17th literature at Zagreb University, but currently a research fellow at Oxford. He was giving a lecture on the portraiture of Shakespeare, entitled '(Ef)facing Shakespeare'.

It was fascinating - not least because he had such a great style. I do admire people who wear their learning so beautifully that you never feel lectured, taught or, worse still, bored, but rather you feel it is a privilege to have something special shared with you.
