Life's Little Moments

My, what big feet you have...

Fantastic first day of the Band of Blippers Bash in Savannah. A small contingent of us met in the hotel lobby at 6 this morning and set a course for the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. It was misty and pretty quiet when we arrived but soon enough we started to see gators and some of the wading birds.

By late morning, it was just Hillysblips and her hubs and I ...and that is when he spotted the first Least Bittern, an illusive member of our heron family and a first for all of us. One turned into three which felt a bit like winning the lottery. And then we came across a couple of these Purple Gallinule (related to moorhens)! This is another first for me. This one was rolling over lily pads, looking for small invertebrate or perhaps snail eggs. I had to pick this for my blip today - it's such an unusual looking creature. The only edit to this is a crop - colors are exactly as seen.

We continued our adventures in the afternoon, and i ended up taking about 800 shots in total. A good day. Next up is dinner and then bed for me. Most of the group will be heading into the city iof Savannah tomorrow - and a few of the more die-hard nature photographers may venture out for more wildlife.
