Rollrights

Today was mostly about mowing the lawns, and then a pleasant blast into the Cotswolds on the borrowed Striple to meet up with a Druid friend of mine called Bobcat. We met at the Rollright circle under a blue sky, listening to the skylarks as they ascended over the rolling Oxfordshire countryside.

The circle is small, and formed of well eroded limestone, which gives each stone a very individual character, and they are known in folklore as the King's Men. There are other larger stones nearby, named as the King Stone and the Whispering Knights, and the tale tells of a king, thwarted in his march by a witch, old Mother Shipton, who then turned the army to stone.
