Phases of the Sunrise

I woke early and was out the door at 7am. It was still dark with reflections of street lights lying in puddles, stars twinkled and the moon shone against the darkness of the sky while clouds hovered towards the south and a little to the east. I was ever so hopeful for a sunrise as it had been a while.

Arriving at the beach just 15mins after leaving home, the sky was clearing and all was calm. My feet scrunched along the frosty sand, it was just 4C with not a breath of wind. The tide was well out leaving plenty of room for reflections as small waves gently crawled into shore. The sky took on quiet shades of pink mingling with darker blues and greys, quite cold with a real wintry feel.

As the sun got closer to rising the clouds were lit red, such an amazing vibrance and birds began to call, there was a stir as a little breeze drifted by. I stood in awe and simply watched as the vibrant shades of red slowly progressed to shades of gold mingling with dark grey and blue as day dawned. And then the sun appeared, so bright and golden dazzling all the surrounds, four phases of the sunrise this morning - it was breath-taking!

I've put three extra photos up, the start of the sunrise in its pink form, then the red, and finally the arrival of the sun - so many blips, so hard to choose.

The sun shone all day, although it wasn't very warm 9C at 2pm.

Happy Weekend everyone :)
