Mt Hood In Its Glory

The day started in the wee hours of the morning, as I was trying to get "Milky Way" shots from our room's open window at Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, some 6000 feet above sea level. (Just in case you ever want to try this, room 204 has a superb view to the south where the Milky Way sits between the hours of midnight and 2AM in July)

Timberline lodge itself was constructed in 1937 by the WPA and it stands today (after much restoration) as a National Historic Landmark, all 55,000 square feet of it on the south facing slope of Mount Hood.  On a clear day you can see Mt Jefferson (40 miles due south) and the Three Sisters, which are over 100 miles away!  The views are breathtaking...and the elevation is too :)

This photo was taken as we left the mountain, on a back road to Government Camp which winds down through all of the ski slopes at Timberline.  The area is stunning with the wildflowers and the mountain as a backdrop.
