Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Archie learns a lesson. Possibly.

We had planned to go to the Scottish Parliament and view the current photo exhibition then walk through the park. But it was mizzly. Surprise surprise!

Then our pal rang to say she'd pop round with the grandchildren. That was much better than going out in the rain! To say that we're all getting very fed up with this summer's offering is putting it mildly. Those who can, will be emigrating soon!

Archie has started his hysterical barking again (did it ever go away?) especially at tradesmen who insist on coming right into the house despite his best efforts. But of course, they always go away again, so in his little mind, he's done his job. Hmm... something needs to be done...

This morning, as we were coming out of the gate, he did his usual barking at the neighbour who was innocently getting into the car. But unbeknown to me, another dog was just coming level with our gate. Archie lurched on the lead, yapping excitedly as usual. I shouted to the owner, an older man, that he was friendly, and he smiled. But his dog, off the lead, was a wee staffie (but she could have been any breed) and just not prepared to put up with such unseemly behaviour. She snapped at Archie (there was a bit of his hair flying), who got a real fright and whimpered for a while. The owner was apologetic, I was apologetic, but there was nothing either of us could do, just bad timing. But maybe Archie will have learned a wee BIG lesson.

We had a nice morning with S and N and the kids. When they were last here (check out the LOOK) wee H was a tiny baby. He's all giggles and (loud) squeals now. Archie kept out of the way, but eventually I put him on the sofa with M, who was watching TV. She gave him treats and patted him quietly. I went back to the kitchen with the others, and he stayed there! Of his own accord. He's even touching her!!

Another lesson learned?

I doubt it.
