Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

SOMETHING THERE IS THAT DOES NOT LOVE A WALL...

We welcomed back the sun like overwintered cattle let out to pasture...well, no, but we did go for a wee stroll and kept saying to each other over and over how lovely the countryside was.

I worked my socks off in the garden in the afternoon and evening, harvesting and hacking back the undergrowth.  Later I walked the long way round to the graveyard - the short way is over the wall - and loped down the saplings that will otherwise shadow the fruit and veg plot.  I met the minister in the graveyard and learned to our joy that the East Church will remain the church that is used when the two churches in the village join.  We dreaded it lying empty or being turned into a carpet store.  On a less selfish note, the building is much more in keeping with the village that the other, which although nice enough in its way looks like someone who dressed for a ball and found them selves at a casual gathering.

Later still our FCG called, full of cheer and thanks for a wee gift we sent.  Off to bed now.  Won't need much rocking.
