Figures on the beach

The photographs of poor little Aylan Kurdi, the three year old Syrian boy found dead on a beach near Bodrum in Turkey has created a country wide wail of despair. Public protest has forced David Cameron to rethink his policy on refugees fleeing war and for once the press seem to be doing something to effect change.

As I drove down to Vauxhall this lunchtime Paddy Ashdown was being interviewed about migration on The World at One.

He said something profoundly disturbing.

That the numbers of migrants trying to flee the Middle East for Europe and North America are tiny compared to the numbers who will be forced to relocate due to climate change.

In the shadow of M16 and overlooking the Houses of Parliament stand 4 figures on horseback. The figures eyes are closed, the horses heads are the well head of oil drills. Sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor's 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse' stand on the Thames beach, becoming submerged as the tide rises. A warning against the use of fossil fuels.
