Hart's-tongue Fern

On our journey home we stopped at Orton Scar and discovered an area of limestone pavement there (see extra photo 1).

There is much evidence of the fossil material comprising the limestone and also the plants occupying the crevices and I particularly liked the sunlight shining through the fronds of these Harts-tongue ferns (Phyllitis scolopendrium).

Later, in Appelby, our coffee and scone were accompanied by a Shield bug, (extra photo 2) whose body perfectly fitted the pattern of the table top.

I have back-blipped the last two days starting here; if you do not like creepy-crawlies do not look.
