Desert View

View from the 25th floor, on the 24th day of June, on our 23rd anniversary.

We drove the 550 miles to Las Vegas, not to celebrate our anniversary (trust me), but to witness our son's wedding tomorrow. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, contemplate this: everything you see in this view is superimposed on a desert basin. Although this city where the temperature hovers over 100 degrees is brightly lit and air-conditioned day and night, I saw no evidence of solar power, and please let me be wrong about that. Every single thing here has to be brought from somewhere else, probably including the sand in the real sand beach at one of the four hotel pools. (The topless-optional pool where women get in free, and men pay a twenty dollar admission... and, yes, there were people in the pool.)
