Long, slow exit of the ATM

I like contactless and I like ApplePay. I like not having to worry about having cash. I like having no cash and still being able to buy a coffee without having the whole performance with the PDQ machine. (PDS more like.)

And I like not having to use these machines, which mostly seem to lurk around motorway service stations but are also to be found in pubs, such as the one I found myself in, this evening. I mean, I totally understand why they need to charge me £1.95 to access my own money but that doesn't stop my knee-jerk resentment.

This evening, though, I found myself feeling a bit sorry for them. Who wants to be be in a moribund business? Cash will be with us for a while yet but the writing is on the wall.
