Another Phase, But This One Isn't In the Book

Here's the caterpillar I was so enthusiastic about a couple weeks ago. It has not made a chrysalis, but instead has gradually darkened it's vibrant colors, and simply clings to this branch, not moving at all. If you look very closely you can see that it seems to be covered with tiny bumps or raised dots--I fear it may be a fungus or something else unpleasant, but I haven't found any references to it. It definitely is not following the life cycle stages that I've seen before.
