More Snow

I promise not to blip snow tomorrow!

Kiwilizzie and I left work at the same time this afternoon to head to Canterbury in our respective cars. We agreed to meet at Marble Hill in the hopes of getting photos of robins in the snow. No such luck. The entrance hadn't been cleared b y the snow ploughs so we met there, took photos of snow and headed on.

I suggested that a more successful stop might be at the St James walkway so we agreed to meet there in the hopes of getting photos of the tarn (small mountain lake) surrounded by snow. No such luck. Although the pull in area had been ploughed a little, access to the walkway to the tarn was treacherous and we were both still in our work shoes (ladies ones - the sort you wear with dresses).

We once again took a few photos of snow and then headed on to meet up in Culverden for a reviving coffee. There we parted ways as I came on to Christchurch whereas she is staying elsewhere.

This is taken from the St James walkway entrance. I've not touched it other than to crop it slightly so the colours are true. I liked the sky/snow contrast with the moon high above bringing the white back in. You can see quite clearly where this side of the valley is shadowed by the mountains on the other side - this is taken at about 4.30 in the afternoon. At this point it was 0C (32F). Fifteen minutes down the road the temp had dropped to -2C (28F). Now that I'm in Christchurch we have an almost balmy 2C (36F).
