Friday 29 June 2012: At Mesa Verde

We are so happy that T got us tickets for the 10:00 am tour of the Cliffhouse at Mesa Verde national park - it was still in the shade! An amazing spot with houses built in alcoves in the rock, inhabited from AD550 to AD1300 by ancient puebloans or , formerly called,Anasazi, and abandoned for mysterious reasons. (don't know how to do a link on the iPhone but if interested you could google it. )
So interesting and beautiful -kids did great on the ladders- here with their cowboy hats next to a kiva, then a nice picnic lunch and ride back in the smokey Mancos valley where they say this fire is 2/3 contained (now being fought with backfires). Clouds but DRY and HOT!
Might replace the iPhone pix later with the SLR version. :-)
