The end of the salmon life cycle

We had to go to Victoria to pick up a few things today.  After having breakfast with friends in Sidney, we headed up to Goldstream to see we could spot some eagles feasting on the salmon that had spawned.  There were hundreds of dead salmon in the river and on the banks and a few still splashing weakly.   We didn't see a single eagle but there were plenty of seagulls feasting, and I included an extra of one.  It was difficult to get a good shot because the light was difficult, but I thought that the darker colours and the little flashes of sunlight in the water and on this dead salmon were quite lovely.  All part of the life cycle of this incredible fish.
The smell was something else!   We also had to watch where we walked so we didn't step on any of the dead fish.
