Kosmos

'Kosmos are mercy flowers. You don?t sow, you don?t plant, you don?t water, and when you look, they are flowering next to the road!' (From Wikipedia)

Roundabout February/March every year, these lovely flowers are covering the fields next to the main roads, as far as the eye can see, mainly in the North Eastern parts of the Freestate and in the Northwest Province as well as Mpumalanga.! I always thought they were indigenous to SA, but to my surprise, I read in Wikipedia today that they originate from America.

They just simply appear every year, no need to sow, plant or water them! It is like a sea of colour, there are white, pink, maroon, and nowadays even yellow and dark orange flowers!

M & Z brought us some seeds they harvested from the flowers when they visited South Africa in 2005, needles to say, we were never without them since! They simply sow themselves every year.
