One finger, one thumb, one arm, one leg keep moving

If ever there was more of an incentive to keep moving while standing in a hole of liquid cement, I can't think of it at the moment. His Lordship and I watched entranced as the cement was poured from a hose into the hole as two quick movers raked it level. Already one of them is up to his calves in the stuff.

This is Quartermile's answer to the Grand Canyon as it is being developed to be the home of a new office block. Concrete has already played a large part in the building as there are what we assume to be tall lift shafts in place to the right of the picture. This is no construction expected to be redundant after 25 years as so much modern building going up overnight is deemed to be; the care and time taken in this instance means that it should be around for the long haul.

It is a pity that the rain has arrived just when we are having a visit from my #1 granddaughter, who has successfully completed her 2nd year at Stirling University, and her father who has arrived in Scotland from his home in Oman. She is flying back to Oman on Monday for the summer while he stays to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of his parents in Portsmouth.
There will be no drinks on the patio tonight.

I watched the final few minutes of the service in St Paul's this morning to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday, and what struck me most apart from the pomp of the occasion, was the fact that the Duke of Edinburgh, 95 today, walked smartly down the steep steps outside the church with his hands clasped behind his back. For whatever reason I find that an amazing accomplishment, or is that being ageist?
