Sunday 29 July 2012: After the Show
We usher every year at the local Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and spent the weekend immersed in the fabulous multi-media premiere of Hidden World of Girls: Stories for Orchestra, an original work about girls and the women they become, based on the NPR radio series by The Kitchen Sisters. The piece merges storytelling, digital media and a full orchestra to send a powerful message of hope and human connection. Not only were we privileged to see the performance twice, we also heard an intelligent and moving panel discussion of the project, featuring 3 of the narrators. And we got to keep the extremely cool red usher shirts that say Fabulous at 50, a little late for me, but perfect for the Festival's fiftieth year.
