A Christmas carol concert in a boys school this evening. it lasted 4 1/2 hours and contained many speeches from various school principals, chunks of cake and mango pop, traditional Sri Lankan dancing, massed choirs of boys whose voices were all breaking, choirs of tiny boys in cardboard hats drowned out by canned piano music, doting mums in saris talking to their husbands on mobile phones and strange latin mottoes above the stage. Oh and one recogniseable carol: "Christmas Time" by Cliff Richard
