Between fen and mountains

Chateau zoo

Another early morning blip before setting off. Nothing stirs except the donkey and the exotic birds. The chateau is a pile of turrets and pan de bois with a range of outbuildings to match. The whole place has the air of decaying gentility. Monsieur is a doctor who greets us with a large parrot on his shoulder. He does not appear to have a peg leg. Madame is Vietniamienne and cooks us a pleasant viatnamese meal and scuttles around smiling and attentive followed everywhere by a small and yapping pug nosed dog. The outbuildings house exotic birds. This is a strange place and it will leave an impression on the memory.
