Thursday 9 August 2012: Other People's Gardens

There is a big empty lot not far from us that has been converted into community garden plots that can be leased from the city. It's always fun to visit and see the different ways that people work their allotments--so many different ways to stake tomatoes and beans, and this year a lot of folks are trellising squash. There's a plot of corn that really is as high as an elephant's eye, and great gobs of bright zinnias and dahlias. And amaranth, a strange and wonderful eye catcher amid all the greenery.
